Mozambique vows to reactivate cashew processing

Agriculture minister Tomas Manjate says the reactivation of the countrys cashew processing industry is among his governments priorities.

Manjate is optimistic of success says there are ongoing efforts to boost production of raw material, which include the planting of new and more productive trees, treating or protecting existing ones against disease, among other others measures.

Manjate said cashew nut production should reach about 100,000 tonnes per year soon as a result of those efforts, which must be accompanied by the creation of an internal processing capacity.

The minister said three new small to medium size processing plants will start functioning in the country this year.
