ZIMBABWE
(d)
SOCIAL INSURANCE
There
is a National Social Security Authority (NSSA) that was established
in 1994, responsible for the following:
- workers
compensation
- occupational safety
- NSSA pensions (a national retirement pension scheme) and other
benefits schemes.
Workers
compensation provides benefits in cases of disability or death caused
by accidents at work. The pension scheme provides retirement benefits
at the age of 65, pensions in cases of early retirement on grounds
of ill-health and funeral benefits at death.
Contributions
are limited to 3% each of monthly pay. Employers’ contributions
are limited to a maximum of Z$120 per employee per month. Expatriates
must pay NSSA contributions.
Unemployment
Insurance
Currently
there is no unemployment insurance scheme in Zimbabwe. It is however
anticipated that, in the near future, NSSA will include unemployment
benefits.
Health
Insurance
Zimbabwe
does not have a national medical insurance scheme, but several private
medical aid schemes exist, which are commonly provided by companies
/organizations for their employees.
Pensions
In
addition to NSSA, many private pension schemes exist in Zimbabwe.
These schemes are commonly administered by insurance companies and
are usually either fixed benefits or fixed contribution schemes.
