COUNTRY PROFILE Cote D'lvoire, located in West Africa, is bordered in the North by Mali and Burkina Faso, in the South by the Atlantic Ocean, in the East by Ghana and in the West by Guinea and Liberia. Cote D'lvoire's thriving economic capital, Abidjan, is also known as a principal transit and transshipment port in West Africa. Many multinational companies and international organizations have chosen Cote D'lvoire as their regional headquarters including Air Afrique, Microsoft and the African Development Bank because of its economic and political stability. Since 1994, Cote D'lvoire has witnessed a remarkable turnaround in its economy with acceleration of structural reforms, continued fiscal discipline and its commitment to a competitive business environment which puts the country at a new era of strong growth- into the 21st century. The economic reforms have been supported by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund through the approval of a third loan of US $137 million under the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility (ESAF). |
