Senegalese Prime Minister Madame Mame Madior Boyeand Marketing Director of APIX, Mbaye Khouma, with delegates The Second Asian Business Mission organized under the Asia Africa Investment Technology Promotion Centre (AAITPC) project took place from 19 to 28 March
in Senegal and Tanzania. In both countries at least 130 individual one-to-one business meetings between the Asian mission members and local entrepreneurs took place to discuss investment and trade opportunities. AAITPC carried out a promotion tour for the mission which covered India, Malaysia, Pakistan, China, Korea, and Singapore. The first AAITPC Mission visited Uganda and Tanzania in October 2000.

While the number of one-to-one business meetings in the two countries was similar, the programmes in the two countries differed in emphasis placed on seminars. The Tanzania Programme included presentations on investment opportunities in both Tanzania and Zanzibar, factory visits, and meetings between Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye, the Vice Minister of Industry and selected mission members. In Senegal, the programme included a briefing by the Senegalese investment promotion agency APIX on the investment opportunities and incentives in Senegal, a presentation by local business associations, testimonials by Asian entrepreneurs as well as a lecture on banking practices in Senegal. Two panels, one on investment opportunities under AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act) and the other one on the UEMOA Common Market were held, followed by Q & A sessions . AAITPC Delegates also had the chance to visit some Senegalese factories and the Senegal-Japan Technical Training Centre. The programme concluded with a meeting with Senegalese Prime Minister Madame Mame Madior Boye. The Prime Minister congratulated the Mission on its success, providing a perfect example of South-South Cooperation, which she believes needs to intensify.

Memoranda of Understanding between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Senegal National Council of Employers (CNP) and the National Confederation of Senegal Employers (CNEP) as well as Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) were signed to confirm the intention of the parties to collaborate for the expansion of business among their respective constituencies.
