Sweden Donates Sh1.2b for UHRC Programmes

THE Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has received 8m Swedish Kroners (about sh1.2b) aid from the Swedish Government.

The money will be used for Human Rights and Democratisation Programme activities, under the department of Finance And Administration for a period of three year.

The hand over-agreement was signed between the Swedish Embassy in Uganda and the Danish Royal Embassy Kampala, which manages and controls the UHRC funds.

The signing ceremony at the UHRC boardroom in Kampala on Friday, was witnessed by the head of delegation, Mr. Sigurd Illing and commissioners Adrian Sibo and Veronica Bichetero among others. The UHRC basket fund has hit sh5.4b.

The European Union recently donated 600,000 Euros (sh946,800,000) while DANIDA donated 15.4 Danish Kroners (sh3,203,200,000).

The commissioners expressed gratitude to the Swedish government for the assistance.
